In 2017, Kelly was invited to go to PNG and be a part of the PNG Tribal Foundation’s Senisim Pasin (Change Your Ways) national campaign to reduce gender based violence. As a part of this campaign she was asked to use her on camera presence and film a segment for the televised portion of Tribal’s nationwide push against gender based violence and sorcery accusation based violence
Through this experience she became personally aware of the severity of the issue and also aware of the effectiveness of the ‘senism pasin’ campaign to bring around lasting results. This campaign has grown to the point that the EU and ‘bread for the world’ have become partners. In fact the UN has since hosted the Tribal Foundation who presented on the issue of sorcery accusation based violence at the International Human Rights Commission in Geneva.
During Kelly’s most recent visit to Papua New Guinea, she experienced historic moments of reconciliation between tribes to end ‘Revenge fighting’ and seek justice and peace instead of war. my1Mpact continues to play a vital role in expanding the campaign across PNG. We are pleased to be part of this innovative program that is saving lives and helping to change how women are respected and treated.
The my1Mpact organization has ongoing involvement with numerous other aspects of helping the country’s women and children. This includes street children’s rescue, care, housing and education. She also became involved in the start-up of Tribal Foundations Village of Hope that not only rescues women and children from brutality, but creates industry and rebuilds lives. As my1Mpact begins to grow Kelly and the team aim to encourage others to join in the fight against gender-based violence in PNG and around the world
